ASA Storm

Born Bukola Elemide, ASA has taken the Nigerian Music Industry by storm. As an ideal imagine of style and fashion, her mixture of pop, soul, jazz and Yoruba, has landed her as one of the most inspirational singers in Nigeria

I am definitely a fan of Asa. I love her style, her hair and her music. In my opinion she is one of the few people that can make Yoruba sound so smooth and romantic.

Her music speaks not only of her life, but also of her country and the problems that Nigeria faces.

Check her out for yourself :D

Water no get Enemy - Fela Kuti

Fela created his own genre of music called Afrobeat. Afrobeat is combination of traditional Yoruba music, jazz, highlife, funk and chanted vocals. Fela was ahead of his time and he didn't even know this. Most of the things he said in his lyrics is what is going on now in Africa. He was a supporter of Pan-Africanism and socialism and also a big supporter of traditional religions and lifestyles (even though his father was a protestant minister, but thats another story entirely). I love this song because of the beautiful instrumentals and of course, the lyrical content. We take advantage of so many things that we get everyday like water. Water is essential to human life, only a fool will go without it. Likewise, the people and the body politic are a nation's lifeblood. They populate the land, power the economy, and preserve culture. Only a foolish government would fight or antagonize its citizens. "Trample on your own people, and your nation will die of thirst."
This song was written back in 1975 for Nigeria, but his message is still worth hearing today.

Mission Impossible?!?! POSSIBLE

Don't mind the title, that's what happens when you're high off of 3 cups of coffee! lol [have to study for midterms]

Anyways, I am on a new mission. Story, story....story.....once upon a time, time time lol [coffee effect] So i wore this nice outfit today, if I must say so myself, and I looked in my closet and realized that I did not have any..........................platform shoes.......

I know....I thought the same thing!

So now my new mission is to find some platform shoes. Most people that know me, know that I like to shop but that I can also be very cheap [I mean who likes spending money??]. So I need some platforms on a good deal.....

[Mission accepted] Let the mission begin!!!

Do You Remember the 21st Night of September?

I would like to tell you all a very interesting story titled Do You Remember the 21st Night of September?.

Once upon a time, on September 21st, the Lord was in the happiest and most creative mood ever. He decided it was best to bring forth his best creation. 22 years later, his creation is celebrating her born day.

The Thursday after her birthday, she left the God-forsaken Jax to go back home and hang with all her friends and family that she missed so dearly

Friday consisted of one of the best birthday dinners she ever experienced. In lovely Downtown Silver Spring

With the best group of friends anyone could ask for.

She was not the only wonderful creation God made. [The two birthday celebrants]

The frosting on the cake (literally....well at least cupcake) was spending Saturday afternoon standing in the longest line for cupcakes with one of her favorite boos!

WHY stand in this line? All for....

Yes....all for the best cupcakes ever!!! All for that one cupcake

Finally the best weekend ended, and this wonderful creation had to fly back to reality. *sigh*
The End!!!

The Persistence of Memory

Memories are quite interesting. Time, places, people, thoughts all fade away. Sometimes to be retrieved later, sometimes never to be heard of again.

Tonight, it's extremely hard for me to sleep, for memories keep flooding and invading every region of my mind, heart and spirit. Memories that I thought I got rid of long ago.

Then it hit me *BAMMM*

I never got rid of those memories. Those memories didn't live in notes/letters that I balled up, pictures that I burned, CDs that I scratched , clothing that I ripped, or gifts that I threw away, but they live in the depth of my mind and heart, waiting to break free and remind me of all the good and bad that make me who I am.

Re-Vamped

Hey guys,

I'm sure you're looking at my blog like 'what is going on???' Well I've decided to change what I blog about. Don't get me wrong, I love my hair and I'll still have updates about my hair journey. But I also wanted to share with people, my journey as myself. I've studied this word 'simple' that we've all used plenty of times before. What does it mean to live simple? I think it means to live embracing all the little things around us and acknowledging the beauty that God has created (Earth). So welcome to my new journey of simplicity. Hope you enjoy!

Sincerely,

iAm_Simplicity

Treasure Hunt

I was talking to my best friend on the phone one day and he asked me where I was, since the place was so noisy. I told him I was in a thrift store shopping. His reply was "What is so great about thrift stores? Even my friend here loves going to thrift stores, can you please explain that to me." So here is my explanation....

Imagine for a second you found a treasure map. With that map, there is bound to be something hidden. It may be something worth millions or it may be something worth less than dirt. But the joy doesn't come in knowing what is hidden, it comes in knowing what the possibilities are. The joy comes with the stories that the treasure tells. For me, the thrift store is the treasure map. Inside the store lies ton of clothing. It's an adventure to go through the thrift store. You never know what you will find. Some days you wont find anything, but the very next day, you could find tons of things you like. That's the thrill!

Each shirt, jacket, skirt, pants, belt, purse, earring, scarf, etc tells a different story. And for me, it's always amusing to create a story behind the item. See these earrings, they were worn by Mrs. Tiffany Parks. O Mrs. Parks, was a wealthy women. In fact she was the beauty of the town. Of the very small town. Or this skirt, was worn by Ms. Sue. Although never married, she wore this skirt the day she met the man that changed her life forever...blah blah blah.

This is the joy that going to the thrift store creates in me. That is why I will continue to go on my Treasure Hunt and find what is out there for me to find!!
